Getting caught in imagined stories and scenes can incline the mind toward aversion and desire. Slowing this down, dropping the content, noticing habits of mind and exploring ways to free them up helps incline the mind toward mindfulness and compassion.

Let’s learn the ways of skillful speech by tracking HOW WE SPEAK to ourselves in the privacy of our minds and outwardly to others AND noticing THE RESULTS, THE EFFECT. This is good practice.

Context affects mood, which in turn affects speech.

May your voice be an instrument of love. Learning to practice this in the face of harsh, aggressive speech. Tai Chi gives a great embodied example of how we can practice.

Exploration of how words and labels can be the building blocks for our inner and outer realities and can create suffering and separation or healing and connection.

So much of our speech is made up of opinions, and can be motivated by trying to be right or establishing a solid sense of self. Using questions Is this true, Is this kind, Is this necessary, to clarify our intention before speaking.

W.A.I.T.-- Why Am I Talking??? Pause periodically and ask yourself, Why Am I Talking? And, to assess the what, the why, and the how of your words, use T.H.I.N.K.--Is it Truthful? Helpful? In a timely manner? Necessary? & Kind?
